More Lino Cuts

Lino cut based on my drawing of a tree in a road in Reading, Berkshire.  A4 size (approx 8" x 11.5")

The drawing, made with silver pencil on black paper, is on the left.  Obviously the lino print is mirror image.

I made a few different versions of this using different colours and inks...

My favourite is bottom right, which I had framed.  It printed with a kind of dendritic texture that suited the bark perfectly.

Lino Cuts

I made a lino cut of a friend's favourite tree and tried a number of different printing styles with it.

Lines and planes

Thinking about abstracting images with a focus on lines and planes.
[I later sold these all to the same collector.]

I've made three versions of a garden (image shared by Julia from Sarah Holliday's Blog Group).  Always an interesting project to make multiples.

Plans

Plan for the next 50cm square canvas...

When I'm planning, I make some small, very simple line drawings, to check the format I have chosen, and to work out the 'flow' of the painting.  I draw the shape of the canvas or paper, then add the flow lines, then the very basic shapes involved.  At this point I can extend the drawing in some directions, if it looks as though it needs it.
When that looks OK, I make a similar plan, but this time for the tonal values.  I try to stick to three tones - dark, mid, light/white.
After that, I might try out some colour combinations.  I have been doing these in the sketchbook, but I decided to make some little painted squares today, so I can swap them around.

Fishy

Today I procrastinated by painting a pebble to look like a fish.

And more...

Look better in real life as they are metallic paints.  Still mucking about as you can see.

Les Petites Cigognes

Had a brilliant holiday in a gite at Les Petites Cigognes.

The owners were kind enough to buy this facetted painting, to go with a more impressionistic one I painted a couple of years earlier.
