Waterperry Revelations

I have neglected the poor old blogosphere as a result of moving house and other trivia.  However, I'm back! (fanfare) and what's more, I have learned something new.
I went on a fantastic 4-day course in May, run by Sarah Holliday (wonderful artist) at Waterperry House in Oxfordshire.  The course was entitled "Developing The Artist Within" and I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has or might have an artist within. :)

The theme was development.  We had plenty of still life subjects as well as the stunning gardens of Waterperry House itself.

Here is what I produced, in the order I produced it.  Comments welcome.
I did make other sketches and things, but these are the more finished pieces of work.

Blind contour drawing of a still life set-up.

Same still life in oil pastel with wash over.

Same still life in acrylics - trying to paint overlapping shapes separately - needed transparent media, really.

Starting to get somewhere identifying delineated, overlapped shapes as pattern.

Part of the set-up. Line contours, painting inside/up to lines.

Same idea - new colour palette.

Creating the lines by negative painting.

Imposing the lines by printing over painting - yellow irises in Waterperry Gardens

Creating the lines by negative painting - irises.  I used the negative of the monoprint as the base.

Lots of very quick sketches outside, interpreting views as patterns of lines.

Imposing the lines by mono-printing over painting, based on quick sketch.

Imposing the lines by mono-printing over painting, based on another sketch.

Creating the lines by negative painting, based on blind contour of the wisteria.

Creating the lines by negative painting - a different still life.
