Wielding the knife

More palette knife...
This one is called "A Country Post" and is based on a small section of a lovely photo "A Post in The Country", shared by Steve Lyddon.
You can see more landscapes under the "Land" tab on the menu bar above.

Getting the knives out.

More palette knife paintings this week...

With the Rotary art show "reading Art Exhibition" arriving this weekend, I had some earlier palette knife works framed last week at Ralph Spearpoint Framing in Reading.  He did a lovely job and I liked them so much that I decided to make some more right away.

All of these paintings are acrylic on 500gsm Hannemuhle paper, 30cm x 40cm.

New Work

I've just finished this piece..
It's acrylic on box canvas 30" x 20" (76cm x 50cm approx)

It's worked on the principle of laying down colour so that adjoining sections harmonise in hue or tone or both.

Art in Circle

My three abstract pieces in Circle Reading.
(Sorry about the poor photo)

Abstracting again

A piece finished this week - acrylic on watercolour card.
This is a small version, at 28cm x 38cm (11" x 15"), but is destined to be worked up on a larger canvas.

Here is another, a work in progress, exploring colour and tone relationships.  This is based on a large, colourful still-life set-up.  43cm x 30cm (17" x 12")

Whimsy - in aid of Wildlife

I was asked to paint something for a calendar in support of a wildlife sanctuary.
They have box turtles there, so I made this (don't ask).....

Box Turtle Sky Dive
Acrylic on card, 28cm x 38cm

In view of concerns over the potential danger to these creatures, I felt it necessary to make the adaptations below.  BSPCA is the animal welfare organisation and I thought it seemed only fair that they should sponsor the safety equipment.

Art Scope at Circle, Reading

I am very excited to be part of the Art Scope project.

This initiative is aimed at placing good art in Circle, the new hospital in Reading, Berkshire, in order to promote a pleasant, interesting, stimulating visual environment for patients, staff and visitors.  This beautiful new building has well-organised displays of art throughout, including in the stunning atrium entrance space.

See an article about the project here.

All are welcome to view the art on display, and perhaps to take advantage of the excellent coffee shop and food bar in the atrium.

From September 2014 I will be exhibiting as one of 35 artists involved in the project.

The first set of three canvases will probably include this one..
"Industrial Involution".
  (80cm x 60cm, canvas)
